HIDDEN REMAINS (2020)

My recent paintings stem from an ambivalent relationship to painting itself. On the one hand, I feel at home on the flat surface, and I have a predilection for the history of painting. On the other hand, I also experience the frame on the white wall as limiting, and I look for a physical relationship with the viewer in installations and performance.

In my sculptural paintings I create an irregular frame myself. I place a transparent interior opposite the solid frame, behind which the image cannot be completely caught by the eye. I explore the tension between what is visible and what remains hidden.
